Default New GW Player - Elementalist

I've been playing GW for a couple of days now and really enjoying it but i have a question. I have a lvl 8 elementalist in apprentice robes and a holy staff but i'm no sure if this is the correct armour/weapon. Should i have dithced the apprentice armour by now and crafted a different set likewise with the staff? Could some of you veteren players help me out please

Preferably, get a staff or wand+focus set for your class. For an Ele these are Fire, Air, Earth and Water magic-linked. If you're primarily using Fire magic, get a fire staff.

Which area are you in? Istan, Shing Jea or Ascalon (Pre-Searing)? If you're in Istan or Shing Jea I'd suggest getting your hands on some collectors armour or the AL 15 set that can be crafted in Kamadan or Shing Jea Monastry.

If you're in Ascalon (Pre-Searing) you can only upgrade to the collector's set. There's a list of the armour collectors on the Official Wiki. If you're in Post-Searing Ascalon (it's all burnt rather than green) get the AL 30 armour set from Corwen in Ascalon City, you won't need to changr that for quite a while.

Hope this helps.

level 8 and in which game?
basic armour can do you for a while really. and if your a Ele
you can stay at the back out of agro.
buying the starter armour in most of the games can be a waste of cash.
so try just staying out of the fight or at the back of things untill you get somewhere you can get more value for money and materials.keeping in mind.
your max armour rating is 60.
so that gives you an idea of how good your armour is compared to the best it can be.

If the world around you is full of flowers then you shouldn't really care. Use what you drop as weapons.
If it isn't, try to get an elementalist weapon, ie one which is linked to Energy Storage or Fire/Water/Earth/Air Magic.
You should also buy an armor from Corwen.

Im guessing your playing prophecies.

If so you should be able to get armour once you leave pre-searing from corwen, Make sure you get armour from him and not banoit because it has a higher AL for only a little more cost wise.

For your weapon just use the best that drops or find an item form one of the many collectors dotted around. You don't need to meet the req and can even use a stave from a different profession early on (your damage should come from your spells not your weaponm as an ele), although a fire staff would be preferred.

I'm not sure what campaign you're playing, (my guess is Prophecies) but if you can find an armor upgrade through armor collectors or armor crafters you're better off, especially as a squishy elementalist with very little armor rating. You can check any of the GW wikis for the location of collectors.

As for weapons, try to stick with weapons that match the attribute you're using, e.g. if you're using Fire Magic, look for a wand or staff to your liking that requires a certain set attribute in Fire Magic.

Go to Ascalon City then, get the 30AL armour from Corwen (by the fire near storage). Fire staves are easy to come by, you may get something useful from a quest or a collector.

Well. My suggestion is, Get yourself in a Guild. It is called Guild Wars.

Ask someone in the guild if they will help you with some of the quests - killing stuff so that you can generate some funds to get the armor.

I do not know if it has been mentioned but you can add things to your armor. They are called Runes. So you can get a rune of Fire magic +1 and put that on a piece of your armor that will give you +1 in your fire attribute so that you can meet the requirements of the "Weapon" or "Focus" (off hand) that you are using.

Example. I have an ele with a Fire wand and a Fire Focus. Both require 9 in the fire attribute to use. I have put a run of major fire on the armor so I only need to spend 6 in stead of 9 saving me attribute points in the long run.

Just a thought.

Look me up in game. I got some stuff that I can give you to help you out. It is not the best stuff but decent enough. We can kill stuff and get you some drops, complete missions and help you out. A S L A N is lvl 20 WAR if you were wondering.

In Game Name: A S L A N (post Searing)

There is an official wiki for GW. Although I would be careful rooting around in it. Because there are storyline spoilers there. But looking at game mechanics will not endanger that.

Official Guild Wars Wiki
This can be access ingame from the help screen. Default for this is

F10 key. Or if you want to find out about something in the chat window type:

/wiki (what you want to search for)no parenthesis

This will minimize the game and open your flava of internet browsers. This can give you some info.

And here are some links within the official wiki that may be of interest to you:

imnotyourmother : You're giving him quite a bad advice here.
One won't always keep its Insignas and Runes, buying them at a low level means they are going to be often salvaged and reused - since you don't really need them at this time, it's a waste of money. Especially with superior and major runes, health is already low enough.

And about guilds : don't ever get in one that is spamming IG "[name of guild] recruiting, we got this and that and that". Most of the time, they are bad.

In my Defense.

In my post I made some suggestions and remarked that I would indeed help this person as they achieve their goal of getting more proficient at Guild Wars.

Joining a Guild is a Crap shoot at that lvl. However they can always leave a bad guild. Then there is always the possibility of getting invited into my guild if they find me helpful enough. An option that I would make available to them after following my guilds rules on Membership. I would need to train them how to play the game as if Prof was still the ONLY chapter out there. No Ursan but rather good solid team play that once was required.

Also you mention about the +3 and +2 runes. There is no health disadvantages for +1 runes. Which is where to start. A Minor rune of heath is a costly item for me to give away considering that they might break it trying to salvage it but I do have Perfect Salvage kits so that does not apply. My War has everything it needs - maxed weapons, 4 shields and enough Gold to keep me warm with spirits.

I am old school so I try and befriend only a few people at a time teaching them things that they should know, aggro, controlling pets, how to salvage, What to salvage, where to go during festival times for drops and the such.

I only want to be helpful and I realized that the question was a loaded one with a wide birth of possibilities. So I suggested to give some stuff away and see how things worked.

When I first started i sold a black dye for 50 gold and thought that I got a great deal. Then in Post Searing I put 5 runes of minor vigor on my armor. one for each piece. Non stacking I thought meant on the same piece of armor at a considerable cost as I broke 3 pieces of armor getting them off and then taking a huge loss selling them back to the rune trader in ascalon. I knew nothing and was grinding like mad to raise funds outside of the city for that valuable learning lesson.

No one helped me in those days and it was 5 months before I played with a real person and joined a guild. I always used Henchies as this was my first MMORPG and I had no skills suited for solid team play as I liked Smiting. I was unaware of the wiki and I only had prof.

I know much more now and A S L A N is a Legendary Survivor. I still have my monk for bd presents. I also know that there is a lot that I do not know. Thus my Guild and my Alliance, the Wiki and this community.

It is much easier to meet the player in game and to show them the things. Takes FOREVER with some people. It is worth it though cause when the gamers are better the game is better. We all know the difference of a war just running into 3 groups of baddies in HM and getting wiped and then ranting about the monks not healing them. This is cause no one spent the time to show them how to aggro and pull groups.

Sorry for the long thread. I mostly play in pre now showing people how to pull charr and play as a team, mind you my war is lvl 17 so life is easy there.
